Turns out my mystery vegetable was "kohlrabi"... I have never heard of it, even if it does have a name in English. Thanks to Neva who supplied me with a name, I was able to find a recipes of what it was I was supposed to do with this kohlrabi (here is the link to the recipe for those who REALLY want to know)
And.. it was edible. Was not a dish that made me think, "I have to buy a kohlrabi every week" but it was interesting.
